Guardian for Good
We have grown a lot as company since 1950, but one thing that hasn’t changed about Guardian Protection is our dedication to giving back.
When we ask our employees what they love most about working at Guardian, invariably, they mention the charity and fundraising work. No surprise there — doing good just feels good.
But it’s bigger than that. It’s our responsibility. Our employees really care about not only safeguarding our customers but also supporting the neighborhoods and communities we serve.
We partner with a number of charitable organizations and nonprofits, and some of these relationships go back decades. Here’s a peek into our current charity partners and some of the good work we’re doing together.
Variety, the Children’s Charity
If you remember the color of your first bicycle and how it felt to take your first ride, you’ll get an idea of why we’re thrilled to support Variety, the Children’s Charity. Their goal is helping kids, be kids – enabling children with disabilities to live life to the fullest.
Since 2008, we’ve partnered with Variety and in 2015, began to support their new My Bike and My Stroller programs. Whether we’re raising funds by holding gingerbread house-building contests, 50-50 raffles, or a summer carnival with an executive dunk tank, our team members are doing whatever it takes to give Variety kids newfound freedom and the chance to be just like the other kids.
Seven adaptive bikes and two adaptive strollers later, we’re still raising funds! Each year we invite the kids to our corporate headquarters and watch them take their first ride in our very own halls. All in a day’s work at Guardian!

Learn how to partner with GuardianMerakey
Life is better when it’s safe. And better still when we look out for each other, which brings us to our 20-plus year involvement with Merakey, an organization that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Merakey provides living facilities that offer a chance to build life skills, be cared for, and make friends. We support that mission by visiting a Pittsburgh-area Merakey campus every December to deliver a few hundred or so gifts selected with care and purchased personally by Guardian Protection team members. Guardian’s Santa Claus makes a highly anticipated appearance and Christmas unfolds on the spot. It’s a warm, joyful, unforgettable experience.
A few months later, when it seems winter will never end, Merakey residents return the favor and brighten our day with a visit to headquarters and thank you cards they’ve made in appreciation of our holiday cheer. Nothing beats being a partner in kindness.
Guardian Kids ID
Giving hope to a parent during an unthinkable moment is the mission of our Guardian Kids ID program and volunteer team. Starting in 1991 with a paper booklet containing ink strips to capture a child’s fingerprints and vital data, our service has evolved to a sophisticated electronic system. It captures a child’s photo and fingerprints, then replicates them on a credit-card sized badge for safekeeping by parents in the event of a kidnapping, abduction, or missing child incident.
Fighting Hunger
There’s an all-out effort by Guardian employees every year to collect non-perishable food for the hungry. Our food drives are a huge success during the Thanksgiving holiday season, when what we’re able to donate gives us another reason to be thankful for what we have.
Cartons we’ve collected weigh in at 40-plus pounds each and we’ve packed hundreds and hundreds of them. Beneficiaries include Jubilee Soup Kitchen in Pittsburgh, Gleaner’s Food Bank in Cranberry Township, and The Lighthouse Foundation in Butler, Pa.
Crime Watch Signs for Our Communities
We love helping police departments, neighborhood watch associations, and small business districts send a message to criminals that that the area they’re targeting is the wrong one. We do it by providing free, heavy gauge, 12 x 18-inch aluminum signs that can be posted throughout communities we protect. Our “Neighborhood Crime Watch” and “Neighborhood Business Watch” signs have been helping make communities safer for 30 years — a track record we’re proud of and intend to keep up!
