Where it All Began
Guardian Protection was originally founded in 1951 by a Pittsburgh jeweler who needed a reliable alarm for his store. We began as a small, trusted provider focused on protecting local families and businesses. In 1975, a local Pittsburgh entrepreneur purchased the company, renamed it Guardian Protection Services, and grew it through hard work and dedication, earning widespread respect in the security industry.
Growth in the 1990s
In 1991, Guardian joined forces with the Armstrong Group and merged with their security company, Mastertech, marking a major milestone in our evolution. The Armstrong Group is a family-owned and operated collection of home- and business-service companies under one umbrella. We joined with the likes of Armstrong Utilities, Inc., Armstrong Comfort Solutions, 4Front Solutions, Armstrong Development Properties, Inc., and the Ziegenfelder Company. This partnership expanded our reach, strengthened our capabilities, and positioned us to serve both homes and businesses across the nation.

Today, Guardian Protection stands as the largest privately held security company in the United States. Our distinctive purple branding, trusted reputation, and commitment to outstanding service remain central to who we are. Through teamwork, exceptional customer experiences, and a dedication to innovation, we continue to deliver peace of mind to people nationwide.
A Look Back at Our Logos
We may have changed our appearance over the many years we have been in this business, but our mission has always stayed the same.
Pre-2014
Guardian Protection — originally known as Guardian Protection Services — continues to be the family-owned business that it was when founded in 1950. Since the start, we have been protecting homes and businesses with professionalism and state-of-the-art technology. These early days are best marked by our original logo, which sported magenta chevron lines and a purple font.
2014 – 2019
In 2014, we decided to begin rebranding our recognizable logo. However, we still stayed true to the original logo’s concept by maintaining the chevron accents and brand coloring.
2019 and On
In more ways than one, things began to look a lot different in 2019. During this year of change, we redesigned our logo to incorporate new shield imagery and put aside the red chevron accents. With this rebrand, our colors became more distinct and reflective of a strong and growing security provider. Our emphasis on purple represents a feeling of strength, energy, and ambition that our team exemplifies every day. Though Guardian Protection Services is still our legal name, to simplify and strengthen our branding, we began embracing the name Guardian Protection.
