Guardian Protection Reminds Customers During National Preparedness Month to Plan and Prepare to Protect What Matters

In the News

PITTSBURGH – September 10 — As summer winds down and severe weather is in season, smart security provider, Guardian Protection reminds consumers to be prepared in case of an emergency or natural disaster during September’s National Preparedness Month.

Whether it’s the threat of a house fire, flood, hurricane or other act of nature, consumers can take precautions and make plans to be ready and protect what matters. National Preparedness Month, as recognized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is a nationwide campaign that creates awareness about disaster and emergency readiness. The theme of this year’s campaign is, “Be Prepared, Not Scared.”

“Guardian provides an extra layer of security through our monitoring center that can quickly alert homeowners and first responders to various types of emergencies; we encourage all our customers to plan and prepare as well,” said Kevin Bish, Vice President of Marketing for Guardian. “Creating a plan in advance, practicing it and involving the whole family in case of evacuation or prolonged utility outages puts your mind at ease should a crisis arise.”

Guardian encourages customers to be prepared by using these emergency planning tips:

  • Keep digital copies of your insurance documents and insurance carrier contact info on your phone or computer in case paper copies are lost in a fire or other disaster.
  • Create a family evacuation plan. Determine how to exit the house safely and designate a meeting place outside and out of harm’s way. Establish communication methods such as a group text app.
  • Sign up for alerts with FEMA, local emergency management agencies and your home security provider. Early warning allows for more time to evacuate and can save a life. The Guardian app features Smartphone Panic Signal which allows customers to instantly send an emergency signal to the monitoring center from their smartphone so that  first responders can be alerted that help is needed at their home.
  • Build a disaster kit. Not every emergency will require an evacuation. Be ready for staying in the house for several days with a supply of food, water, flashlights, back up batteries and pet supplies. Being prepared for 72 hours is a best practice.
  • Make plans for pets. Practice how to leave your home quickly with your beloved pets so there is no confusion and no pet is left behind when an emergency occurs.

While you can’t be totally ready for every disaster or emergency event, being prepared, having a plan and staying connected for alerts and information can prevent injury and loss of property and life.
