A duress code triggers a silent alert to Guardian Protection, signaling that immediate help is needed. When this signal is activated, an emergency alert is sent to our monitoring center, prompting us to notify authorities without delay. To ensure a swift response and avoid drawing attention to a potentially high-risk situation, we will not call to confirm the alarm before or after contacting authorities, as this code is typically used in high-risk situations like a hold-up or home invasion. This helps ensure that there is not an audible phone call that could make matters worse by tipping the perpetrator off.

The duress code is a four-digit number that functions just like your regular Master Panel Code. Each system has one code to use in emergency situations and it can be changed remotely at any time. You can also change your duress code at any time if needed. Modifying these codes is easy and can be done by following the steps below.

Change a Duress Code (Via the Guardian App)

  1. Log into the Customer app. 
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap Users.
  4. On the duress code, tap More.
  5. Tap Edit.
  6. Tap the access code field.
  7. In the Access Code field, update the duress code as desired. 
  8. Tap Save.

Change a Duress Code (Via the Guardian Website)

  1. Log into the Customer website.
  2. Click Users.
  3. On the duress code, click More.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Click the access code field.
  6. In Access Code, enter the duress code information as desired. 
  7. Click Save.

If you do not already have a duress code assigned to your Guardian system, you can also remotely add them at any time. Creating these codes is simple and can be done by following the steps below.

Add a Duress Code Remotely (Via the Guardian App)

  1. Log into your Guardian Protection app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Tap Users.
  4. Tap to expand More.
  5. In More Options, tap Add Duress User.
  6. In the Duress Code Name field, enter the name of the duress code.
  7. Tap Create.
  8. Tap the access code field.

Add a Duress Code Remotely (Via the Guardian Website)

  1. Log into the Customer website.
  2. Click Users.
  3. Click to expand More.
  4. Click Add Duress User.
  5. In Duress Code Name, enter a name for the duress code.
  6. Click Create. 
  7. In Access Code, enter the desired user code. A new access code can also be generated by clicking Generate Code. 
  8. Click to select which devices and features the user will have access to. 
  9. Click Save. 

You can test your duress code to ensure it is working properly by putting your system in Test Mode before trying it out.
