Frequently asked questions

Life safety devices such as smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detectors are active in your home 24/7.

Properly functioning life safety devices are always “on,” regardless of whether your security system is armed.

First, just to be extra safe, make sure there isn’t a fire.

If all is clear, try disarming your system. If you have a touch screen, look for a trouble alert and acknowledge it by pressing that symbol on your keypad.

Check the message that is displaying on your keypad. If the smoke detector has a low battery, the beeping may return until the battery is changed.

A professionally installed and monitored smoke detector works by identifying abnormal levels of smoke within range of the smoke detector. Upon activation, a signal will be sent to our monitoring team so that we can notify you and emergency services if needed.

Please call 911 right away if you are experiencing a duress or fire emergency.

Before disregarding the alarm, please make sure that you do not have any smoke or fire in the home.

To clear your alarm:

1. Log into the MyGuardianHome.com.

2. In the Welcome tile, click Panel Duress or Smoke Sensor Must Be Reset. The Alerts & Issues page will load.

3. For a duress alert, click Stop Alarm in the top right of the alert and confirm to stop the alarm.

4. For a smoke sensor reset alert, click Remove Alert.

This product is round in shape. The smoke detector is approximately H 5.7 Inches x 2.8 inches.

You’ll receive an alert on your panel and mobile device that there is an issue. It’s also likely you will get a phone call from our monitoring team.

Stand-alone smoke detectors not monitored by Guardian Protection work the same way as our smoke alarms. However, if you’re not home when a fire occurs, no one will know there’s an emergency.

Photoelectric smoke detectors detect slow smoldering fires that fill your home with smoke instead of ionization smoke detectors which are designed to detect quick flash fires.

We recommend that you place your system on test mode when you are testing, relocating, or troubleshooting a device on your system. Test mode will ensure that any signals sent to our monitoring center will be disregarded while you are working on your system.

Taking this step will also prevent accidental alarms and unnecessary dispatch of authorities.

Testing your alarm system is a great way to confirm your system is communicating properly with our monitoring center and that your devices are working properly. We recommend testing at least once a month. Be sure to read the full instructions before getting started.

1. Log into your Guardian account. If you are using the app, you can access this by selecting More and then My Account. You can also call us at 1.800.PROTECT (1.800.776.8328) to place your system on Test.

2. Arm your system (the alarm will sound during this test) .

3. Open any doors or walk by any motion sensors that you would like to test.

4. You can receive your test results by email if you are logged into your Guardian account, or we can review them with you by calling 1.800.PROTECT (1.800.776.8328).

To remove your system from test mode, simply end the test or the system will automatically be taken off of test mode after 4 hours. You will receive an email once your system has been removed from test mode.

You can also call our monitoring center at 1.800.364.3616 to remove the system from test mode.

It is important to know and keep track of your Guardian Protection passwords and codes. This information is vital to your protection and management of your account.

Verbal Master Alarm Password

Single word used to verify your identity when an alarm is triggered or when speaking to Guardian Protection. This password gives you authority to make changes on your account. You won’t want to share this password with many people.

Verbal Limited Level Password

When you are giving access to your home or business to someone you may want to assign a limited password used to verify their identity when an alarm is triggered or when speaking to Guardian Protection, but this password has limited authority and cannot authorize changes on your account.

Master Panel Code

Numeric code used to arm and disarm your security system at your panel. This code is also used to add, remove, or change codes in your panel.

Duress Code

Numeric code that will disarm your security system at your panel, but silently notifies Guardian of an emergency.

Limited Level Code

To give someone temporary access to your home or business, you can assign them a limited level code that can only be used for a specific amount of time. You can add a limited code at your keypad or by calling us at 1.800.PROTECT (1.800.776.8328).
